3 Reasons You May Have Hot And Cold Spots In Your Home

Having a central HVAC system is a great modern convenience. You get to enjoy having a home that is the temperature you like it to be no matter the season. However, these systems can sometimes have issues distributing heat and cold evenly, which can lead to hot and cold spots throughout the house. If you are experiencing hot or cold spots, it is a definitive sign that you are not getting efficiency from your heating and cooling system. Take a look at some of the reasons why you may be dealing with spots around your home that do not have the same temperature as the rest of the house.

You are dealing with unseen airflow restrictions.

You can control some airflow restrictions that you see, such as something sitting in front of a vent or a closed door. However, there may be airflow restrictions that you cannot see, and this will naturally prevent even heating and cooling as well. For example, there could be a blockage in one of your ducts that is not allowing the heated or cooled air to move through, or there could be a problem with one of the ducts. In any case, an HVAC services technician can help you find these unseen problems and get rid of them.

The air handler of your HVAC system is not large enough.

Every HVAC system has an air handler that moves air from the system through the ducts and to your vents. If you have a larger home, the air handler may be too overstressed to get enough heat or air to certain parts of the house. There could be a possibility that you need more than one air handler due to either the size of your home or the complicated layout of your duct system.

You do not have enough return registries.

In some cases, your HVAC system could be failing to get enough return air back through the system for the system to do what it is supposed to do. The lack of return airflow can mean a lack of air available for the heating and cooling system. Therefore, you could notice hot and cold spots in the house. Check your return registries and make sure they are not blocked off or closed. If they are open, there could also be a possibility that you need more than the return registries you already have in the house.
